Day 113 – Back to Contacts

One of the things I have been putting off that I am glad I finally took care of was getting my eyes checked and ordering new contacts. As much as I enjoy the new glasses I got about a year ago, I always enjoyed wearing contacts, and I finally am back in that world. I previously had used JCPenney’s vision center because I worked at JCP and got the discount, but now working at Centurylink I decided to go somewhere else that supported my vision care. That place was Clarkson Eye Care here in Wentzville and I was pretty happy with the service, and the eye doctor was very kind.

After my appointment Jen and I took the kids to the park, more so for Ricky as Amelia hangout in the umbrella stroller, but as always, Ricky enjoyed himself. After that we made a trip to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things and with getting contacts I am able to try on masks with Ricky.

Now both kids are down, and I’m watching some playoff hockey in the living room. I will tell you, that is one thing about playoff hockey, I could watch any one of these games and I’d be entertained. It’s just the love of hockey that I really enjoy. I’m watching the Nashville vs Chicago game and Nashville has come alive and is destroying Chicago now 4-1. The series is shaping up to be 3-2 Chicago. The unfortunate thing is that we have to face one of these teams if the Blues make it to round two.

It’s back to work tomorrow and the kids are going to stay with my parents tomorrow afternoon and hangout. I know Ricky loves hanging out with my parents, and I know they love having them. I’m hoping Amelia starts to feel better as she has been battling a cold for a little while now, and she just seems so pitiful sometimes. Ricky is pretty much over his with the exception of a runny nose and coughing if he gets to hyper, but the fevers are gone and he seems to be sleeping pretty good.

Not too much other than that, and I’m going to play a little Xbox One, I’m in my playoffs on NHL 15 and I’m also actually playing the Minnesota Wild (in the second round as the Blues) and I am in game 7 on that. I’m thinking about selling my copy of NHL 15 because with the EA Access I actually have it with that so I don’t need the hard copy, and I mine as well sell it while I can get something for it.

Completing Video Games

I feel like I may have written a blog similar to this quite a while ago, but as I received an Xbox One for Christmas from my amazing wife, I’m hoping to reinvigorate my enjoyment of gaming to a point where I don’t lose interest so quickly. I cannot honestly tell you the last game I completed, outside of a sports game (which doesn’t actually have a completion). Part of me thinks it was Shenmue or Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but another part wants to say I probably finished one of the Call of Duty games that came out on the Xbox 360. Long story short, I am not good at completing games. Well in 2015, I am looking to change that little fault of mine.

My wife purchased the Xbox One that comes with the two Assassin’s Creed games. On top of that, I also picked up WWE 2K15 and NHL 15. Those two games are my go to games that I really enjoy playing. They may not be games that you can complete, but they are games that I can continually go back to and have a unique experience with. I am starting to feel a guilt though of buying a game, and not completing it. I want to play through a game, get to the end credits, and accomplish a story. I don’t have to earn every achievement, but it would be nice to say, “yes I played through that game.”

The Christmas season is one of the best times to purchase games because of the large amount of deals and sales. I have been eyeing a few games that are much more adventure oriented, but won’t necessarily break the bank. I have a hard time dropping $60 on a game these days, especially with my reputation of not completing them. I do spark a bit of an internal dilemma  with how I want to approach the games I get. I feel that, despite my desire to complete a game, I just don’t have the interest in the first person shooter genre. There are games like Call of Duty, Destiny and Far Cry that are popular games, but I know I will grow tired of them. The key factor that brought me into those games, was having friends to play them with. Right now with my work schedule and family, see myself being able to play too many games with friends. Maybe that will change, but I do have my priorities when it comes to my family.

That is why adventure games that tend to focus on offline modes have my attention a little more these days. Games like Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Middle-earth: Shadows of Mordor and Dragon Age: Inquisition seem a bit more appealing to me. I then factor in the price, and some of those games are on sale, while others are still a little high in price.

I also have the idea of getting Forza 5, a racing game that I think Jen would enjoy playing. I’ve kind of had a little hidden enjoyment in racing games. Ever since I had Nascar Racing on my computer when I was younger. I want a simulation style of racing though, not arcade. Something more a long the lines of Gran Turismo (Playstation exclusive) and a little less Need for Speed.

You can see why I don’t finish games, I have a hard enough time deciding what I want to play, let alone if I will enjoy it and try and finish it.

The just of it though, is that I want to complete games. I want to play through a video game and feel a sense of accomplishment. I also want to hold off on starting a new game, until I finish another one. So even if I decide to buy say Tomb Raider, I don’t want to start playing it unless I haven’t started Assassin’s creed. I feel like WWE and NHL are my fall back games that give me a break, because their aren’t necessarily stories to them. I just don’t want to get into a game, and then play another adventure game and just forget about the progress I made before.

So what games are you playing right now that you really enjoy? What games seem to have the most bang for their buck? Leave me some comments and let me know what you think.
